Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Love Guisborough (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and protects your personal information when you use our website, loveguisborough.co.uk. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

Love Guisborough is a community directory and events guide for Guisborough, North Yorkshire, operated by Love Guisborough. For any privacy questions, contact us at hello@loveguisborough.co.uk.

[If applicable: We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under registration number [ICO NUMBER].]

We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

The information we collect

We collect and process the following:

  • Account information — when you register an account to submit or manage listings, we collect your name, email address, and a username and password. Accounts and listings are managed through our directory system (HivePress).
  • Business and event listing information — the details you provide for a listing, such as business name, address, phone number, opening hours, description, website and booking links, and any images you upload.
  • Enquiry information — if you contact us through a form on the site (powered by Fluent Forms) or by email, we collect the details you provide, such as your name, email address and message.
  • Payment information — if you purchase a paid listing plan, payments are processed securely through our payment provider via WooCommerce ([PAYMENT PROVIDER — e.g. Stripe/PayPal, to confirm]). We do not store your full card details.
  • Technical and usage information — such as your IP address, browser and device type, and how you use the site. This is collected through cookies and analytics (Google Analytics via Site Kit). See our Cookie Policy for detail. Cookie consent is managed through our consent tool (Complianz).
  • Location/map data — our listing maps are served by Mapbox; loading a map may share limited technical data (such as your IP address) with that provider so the map can display.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • create and manage your account and listings;
  • publish the business and event listings you submit;
  • process payments for paid plans;
  • respond to your enquiries and provide support;
  • send service-related messages about your account or listings;
  • maintain, secure and improve the website;
  • send marketing or newsletter emails only where you have opted in (you can unsubscribe at any time).

Our legal bases for processing

Under UK GDPR we rely on: consent (e.g. marketing emails, non-essential cookies), contract (e.g. managing your account and paid listing), legitimate interests (e.g. keeping the site secure and improving it), and legal obligation (e.g. keeping financial records).

Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with trusted service providers (“processors”) who help us run the site — for example our hosting provider, payment processor, email/newsletter service, analytics (Google), and maps (Mapbox) — and only as far as needed to provide those services. We may also disclose information where required by law.

Please note that anything you include in a public listing (such as your business name, address, phone number, opening hours and photos) will be visible to all visitors to the site.

How long we keep your information

We keep your personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes above, or as required by law (for example, financial records). Listing data is retained while your listing is active and for a reasonable period afterwards.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@loveguisborough.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).

Data security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Children’s privacy

Our website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page, with the “last updated” date shown above.
